Martinique

French Martinique Travel

This week's featured country is Martinique! Located in the eastern Caribbean Sea, it is a region of France & nicknamed the Island of Flowers. Martinique's polish color was inspired by the plethora of beautiful flowers that cover the island. The Martinique Hibiscus was the main inspiration for our polish color. Read below for more information about this gorgeous island!

Norwegian Airlines offers flights for as low as $59 from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to the capital Fort-de-France (FDF)! Flights run from October through April. They also fly out of New York's JFK airport to the island.
Air France flies to FDF from Miami (MIA) year round, the flights tend to be more expensive so Norwegian is your best bet!
Martinique uses the Euro for currency. There are many places that accept credit cards but it is always convenient to use cash when traveling into the smaller towns.
Hotel Le Bateliere For some of the most beautiful beach and pool views in Fort-de-France, stay here! The rooms average $115/night and are worth every penny. They offer breakfast and have several restaurants including Lili's Beach Bar. They have a steak with peppercorn sauce (Steak au poivre) that I still dream about. The bar makes a variety of rum cocktails, my personal favorite was the rum and coke made with the local Habitation Saint- Etienne Rum (more on the local rums under "what to do"). A special shout out to the bartenders, for having such a great pouring hand!

Like rum? Then Martinique is the island for you! With a dozen distilleries on this island there is no shortage of good rum.
Habitation Clement: For $12 you can take a tour of the habitation and learn the history of the distillery. The best part? The rum tasting at the end of the tour! They let you sample each and every single flavor and edition of rhum agricole that they have. As many times as you want. It was like being a kid in the candy store, but better.
Book a boat excursion with Captain Marcson for the best tour of the island! You’ll get amazing views, rum, fruits, lunch, and time at several beaches. He is hands down the best Martinique guide, you won’t be disappointed!
